The clinical study of 14 patients with congenital megaclon

Abstract
Kwangju Christian Hospital, from 1966 to 1975 These are the findings
1) Twelve patients (86%) were male.
2) In thirteen patients (93%) the first symptoms were within two weeks of the patients birth. 3) Symptoms were abdominal distention, constipation, and vomiting in that order of frequency. 4) In every patient the aganglionic segment was supra-rectal and recto-sigmoid in location.
5) Swenson¢¥s operation (abdomnno-perineal pull through) was performed in all cases before the age of six.
Ten patients had a preliminary colostomy.
6) Associated anomalies, were recto-vescal fistula (one) and megaloureter (one).
7) Complications were wound infection and anastomotic leakage in the early postoperative period fecal incontinence and anal stricture later.
8) One patient (7%) died.
9) Long term results were good in ten patients who were followed.
